Elevating interior design with bespoke stone creations

Artisans of Devizes go beyond the conventional and traditional stone supplier; they are design partners that take interior design projects to the next level. Their offerings encompass not only majestic one-of-a-kind stone staircases and hall tiling, but also bespoke stone sinks and shower trays that match the elegance of the surrounding tiles. Their focus remains on high-end, natural stone and unparalleled craftsmanship, allowing every little detail to take centre stage and set your project apart.

Speaking to Sally, their commitment to beauty is palpable; “We are passionate about working with designers to create timeless interiors using natural stone and tiles.” She continues, “We blend three generations of family heritage with expert design advice, extensive material selection, and in-house bespoke solutions. Our commitment to exceptional service, including technical guidance and project coordination, sets us apart as your partner in creating timeless, high-end projects.”

Given their unique and bespoke approach to stone, we had to ask… “Sally, could you tell us some of the most unusual or unique uses for stone Artisans has taken on?”. “Of course. Stone is incredibly versatile and it is so important to work with the existing fabric of the building so that new additions become a part of it. We have created incredibly intricate floors using multiple types of stone which is becoming quite a signature for us.

“Working with stone leads us from contemporary to classical so there are often stone reproductions in our repertoire where we mimic existing features of a building so that the floors, steps, treads and cornicing all work in harmony and look like they have always been there.

“Working with quarries all over the world, we come across some particularly exotic stones such as blue and sunset onyx which we have fabricated into beautiful book matched shower cladding.” Stunning doesn’t cover it!

To set the scene on how Artisans of Devizes can help you learn more about stone and tiling, and how you can use it to provide unique designs, let’s get into some fabulous examples on previous projects.

Project Showcase: Classic Elegance

The Hampshire country house underwent a master suite renovation to create a cosier and more intimate ambiance; and to start this journey, the home’s clients chose Artisans of Devizes as their trusted companion. The chosen Calacatta Oceana marble from Artisans of Devizes brought warmth and luxury to the en suite bathroom, enveloping the flooring, shower, and vanity tops to maintain a seamless look. A custom diamond lattice pattern and book-matched marble in the shower created a striking feature, and marble cladding on the shower ceiling and architrave added a timeless touch.

To enhance the period feel and connection between the spaces, the bedroom's existing panelling was extended into the ensuite and painted in soothing grey and softer tones. Recessed storage was cleverly hidden behind vintage foxed mirrors above the vanities, seamlessly integrating with the timeless look. The design was inspired by a hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper in the bedroom, featuring blues, greys, and peachy pink, which harmonised with the Calacatta Oceana marble. Fabric-covered shutters and natural landscape-themed fabric by Schumacher added softness and cohesion. An impressive chandelier and glass wall sconces provided a classic finishing touch, elevating the entire scheme.

Project Showcase: Harwood Properties

This classic-style newbuild in Hampshire, designed as a family home by a property developer, required an interior that harmonised with its rural setting and showcased natural materials. Emphasising beautiful and durable flooring for entertaining spaces, the project focused on creating a formal yet warm ambiance.

In the hallway, a Mallory limestone with a tumbled cabochon layout was chosen, providing a classic aesthetic reminiscent of Georgian properties. The same stone extended into various entertaining areas, including the kitchen, kitchen-diner, family snug, bootroom, utility, and statement powder room. Continuity was achieved by using Mallory limestone throughout the house, contributing to a harmonious feel.

The master bathroom featured Aliseo marble for an elegant and cohesive look, with deep accents on the double vanity and roll-top bath. In the child's bathroom, Aliseo marble in a tile format and herringbone tiles injected contemporary touches. The guest bathroom showcased Mallory limestone, complementing the warm tones of the surrounding countryside and tying in with the chocolate brown hues and feather design Zoffany wallpaper. The overall design aimed to connect indoor spaces with nature, emphasizing natural materials and a soft, flowing palette.

Project Showcase: Claudia Ludwig Designs

Interior designer Claudia Ludwig took on the task of redesigning the master bathroom in a Victorian mews house in St John’s Wood, London. Faced with layout challenges, including an awkwardly placed shower and damaged floor, the client sought a more luxurious and feminine atmosphere.

Claudia's solution involved relocating the shower to create space and turning the chimney breast into a focal point with a bespoke rose mosaic made of glass tiles. The color palette, inspired by the mosaic, extended to the walls painted in Mizzle by Farrow & Ball. A contemporary freestanding bath and opulent marble flooring from Artisans of Devizes added sophistication.

The chosen marble, Aliseo, with its natural depth and texture, complemented the Viola marble selected for the vanity top and shower splashback. These choices harmonized with the master bedroom's purple palette. The design was completed with bespoke oak furnishings, including a double vanity and linen cupboard, along with antique brass fixtures and elegant light fittings by J Adams & Co. The result was a refined and cohesive transformation of the master bathroom.
