The year is 2024. It is the year of the Dragon, and a sense of strength and adventure is in the air. Fully in a post-pandemic travel craze, it is unlikely you haven't pondered over this year's potential hideaways. If you are a person compelled by wanderlust – and also the nuances of good design – we are here to guide your year. From award-winning hospitality spaces to a surrounding landscape worthy of Dune, our team of designers has put together a city and hotel list fit for the travel-thirsty A&D professional and enthusiast.

Why are hotels important for interior designers?

While residential interior design has its own allure, there is something undeniably intriguing about hotel design. Hotels serve as a playground for interior designers, allowing them to explore new ideas, push boundaries, and experiment with design concepts. The hotel industry provides a wealth of knowledge, resources, and inspiration that can be transferred to residential design projects.

From hotel rooms that epitomize comfort and luxury to public spaces that captivate and inspire, hotels showcase the very best of design excellence. So, whether you're an interior designer or a design enthusiast, exploring the world of hotel design is sure to broaden your horizons and spark new creative possibilities.

But let's get more specific. Why should residential interior designers take stock in hotels?

Hotel interior design takes themes to their most emotional conclusion

Step into a hotel and get ready to embark on an emotional journey. Hotel interior design masterfully creates immersive experiences through the power of themes, bringing design narratives to life and evoking powerful emotions. Every aspect of hotel design, from branding to decor, is carefully curated to transport guests to a different world, evoking a range of emotions along the way.

Hotels are the best examples of form and function

In the world of design, achieving a perfect balance of form and function can be a challenge, but hotels effortlessly demonstrate how it's done. Hotel design not only embraces aesthetics, but also prioritizes practicality and efficiency, ensuring that every space serves its intended purpose while also delighting the senses. From high-end spas that blend luxury and wellness seamlessly, to efficient room layouts that maximize comfort and cleaning ease, hotels showcase the art of form and function.

Hotels allow us to enjoy and get inspired at the same time

The hotel industry's wealth of knowledge and its commitment to pushing boundaries will leave you inspired, motivated, and eager to bring new ideas to life; without feeling like you're in "work mode". Of all the spaces to get inspired, hotels are truly immersive and most of all... fun.

Their designs are quirky, different... Forcing us to take stock of our own tastes

Prepare to have your design sensibilities challenged as you encounter captivating and unconventional designs. The whimsical, quirky, and unexpected design choices that hotel designers often embrace can inspire us to step outside of our comfort zones, explore new design horizons, and discover our own personal design style (even if it means not liking something).

Planning your 2024 creativity-fuelled escapades

From the outset, holidays tend to be work-free, centred around relaxation and "letting go". However, as discussed above, this doesn't mean that the newfound space and scenery cannot be used to propel your creative journey...

It's all about the hotel... and the city

When selecting a new destination, we suggest approaching it in a twofold manner. Neither should you go a place and leave the hotel as an afterthought, or worse even, go to a hotel without thinking of its surroundings. We suggest taking both into account, and letting the interactions between the two set you in a place of creative exploration.

In the following section, we'll give you 10 recommendations of hotels you should visit, and set the scene with information on its location.
